What to Do About the Full Moon

Tonight at precisely 9:14pm we welcome and honour (not that we have much of a choice :) a full moon in Sagittarius which is encouraging us to surrender to our divine truth. For me, this looks like coming into full acceptance of what is. One of the laws of karma says that nothing can change until we accept unconditionally what is now, which to me seemed counter-intuitive at first. In actuality, it’s like dragging your life behind you as you try to force change to happen.

As soon as you accept what is, you turn towards your life, let go of the ropes and life starts to move forward with you and beside you with much less effort and much more joy. Go figure. This moon is encouraging us to look at ourselves honestly and see where we are living out of alignment with our truth. What do we really want? Who are we really and authentically? Where do we really want to be and what do we really want to be doing? Try not to force the answers to come. Especially during this time of the full moon.

All you have to do is open your awareness and your mind to allow the answers to come forth and the powers of the moon will help your truth be known. If you’d like to read more about the astrology behind this particular full moon, go here: http://www.starseedsoul.com/2016/05/full-moon-in-sagittarius-may-21-2016.html

The Anishnabe people refer to the moon as Grandmother Moon and the animal that represents her is the turtle. The turtle has 13 plates on its back to represent the 13 full moons of the year, and on the outer part of the shell, there are 28 markings to represent the feminine cycle through the moons. In full moon ceremony, the women give the moon anything negative that they have been carrying from the last moon and allow the moon to give in return the energy required to carry them to the next moon.

The full moon is also a really important time to be paying attention to our dreams. I invite you to set an intention before you sleep to ask your dreams to reveal what you need to know in dream time or whatever intention best suits you, and ask that the answers come in the most loving and peaceful ways or fill in those adjectives in your own way. Leave a notepad beside your bed and jot down anything that you remember.  I had a dream last night that I visited a shaman in the woods. He told me all SORTS of interesting things about what's going on in my life. I woke up this morning feeling very grateful to the power of my dreamer for the beautiful guidance I was able to receive.

The energetic effects of the moon are generally noticeable four days before and after the full moon. So if you’ve been feeling ‘weird’, this is probably why. The full moon is an incredible amplifier. Whatever it is you’re feeling or focusing on, expect it to show up in a much bigger way for the next few days. That being said, we can harness this amplification for our benefit! Use this time to get into high vibrations and allow the moon to rev those energies up!

The best way for me to get into high vibrations is to dance. By myself, with other people, in the shower, back seat of the car, doesn’t matter. Right now, my dance song du jour is Cheap Thrills by Sia. OMG it's good. You can listen to it here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31crA53Dgu0. If you’re on Spotify, the playlist Dance Workout has changed my life. Get your juju vibing high and allow Grandmother Moon to carry you through the releasing with some liberating booty shakes.

The other thing that really helps me stay grounded during these moon times is using crystals. Lately, I’ve been cuddling up to a beautiful piece of amethyst while I sleep. Clear or smoky quartz and rose quartz are also really great absorbers of negativity. If you’re in the Vancouver area, Amethyst Creations on 4th and Stephens is amazing. Head on in and go where your intuition guides you. Pick a few pieces and carry them around in your pocket.

If you have time and feel called, there are many ceremonies we can do to honour the moon and it’s power. There are tons of resources online or you can do the one that I’ll be doing tonight.

Here’s what you need:

- sage or palo santo

– journal and pen

– matches or a lighter or a bonfire or a fireplace

– a sacred space whether it’s in your home or a favourite place in nature (it's ideal to be under the moon while you do this)

Get yourself to your sacred space under the moon. Mine is at my family cabin on the Sunshine Coast which is where I am now, ever so gratefully. Use the burning sage to clear away anything you may be holding that’s no longer needed or not yours. Then centre yourself and write in your journal anything and everything you would like to release, including any blocks that may be keeping you from honouring and living your divine truth.  Be honest and honouring of yourself and others. Once completed, burn the page (safely – you may need a bowl of water close by if you’re doing this at home, or you can burn it in the sink) and save the ashes. Find a tree that will allow you to bury the ashes at its roots. Ask first and you’ll receive the answer intuitively.

I always like to spend some extra time just soaking up the light of the moon. Make sure to bring your crystals with you as well or put them in the windowsill to be cleansed by the moon’s energy.

Enjoy the moon, all you powerful, miraculous beings.
